Cairns
Cairns is not a huge city. It has only 135,000 citizens. However, due to its location (on the Queensland North Coast), it is one of the most desired destinations for tourists. Tourism is its main source of income.
Cairns is located close to the Great Reef Barrier which is a destination of many tourists from all around the world. It is a Mecca for snorkelers, scuba divers and reef cruises. They can all enjoy beautiful views and nature of the Great Reef Barrier. Giant turtles, fish and many other can be seen while snorkeling. On the west side of the city the area is filled with tropical forests with even more nature and animals. Therefore, nature lovers will have much choice where to spend their time while in Cairns. There are coach tours available to the Daintree Rainforest, the Atherton Tablelands and Paronella Park as well as cruises to the Great Reef Barrier.
Among other tourist attractions there is the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Centre. In Aboriginal language Tjapukai means rainforest. In the centre tourists can familiarize themselves with Aboriginal culture, art and history. Some of the attractions are three types of performance to entertain centre visitors. These are: History Theatre, Creation Theatre and Dance Theatre. Other attractions include Didgeridoo Playing, Bush Foods and Medicines as well as Boomerang Throwing and Spear Throwing.
Cairns is full of beautiful beaches where tourists can enjoy themselves and relax. Even during winter time temperatures in Cairns remain well below 20 degrees celsius. It is also located close to destinations such as Port Douglas, The Whitsundays, Magnetic Island, Kuranda, crocodile farms and many more.
